An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Head of Collections and Exhibitions to join Bletchley Park to lead and manage the team responsible for the delivery of parks exhibitions programme and collections management, including research, archive control and access, digital archiving, and collections acquisitions and conservation. This role is responsible for the management of the historic fabric of Bletchley Park’s assets and creative implementation of the park story through exhibitions and interpretation. You will receive a company pension scheme after 3 months, holiday pro rata 36 days pa including statutory holidays. You will need to build strong working relationships across the organisation, understanding its strategic priorities in order to shape a robust, imaginative and visitor-focused future plan for its collections and exhibitions. This is an opportunity to inspire rejuvenation at every level, exploring opportunities to improve how Bletchley Park operates in core areas: how the company care for and catalogue its collections, how it improves visitor access and how it enhances the content of our exhibitions. You will have the specific responsibility of bringing together the curatorial and exhibitions staff, utilising skill sets to enhance its offer. As the Head of Collections and Exhibitions your duties will be to: • Support the Director of Public Engagement to pursue the goals of the trust. This includes advising on developing and implementing collections management and exhibition strategies. • Lead, develop, oversee the research of and implement innovative programmes that make the best use of the collections, buildings and other assets to tell the story of Bletchley Park in order to enhance the visitor experience as part of an integrated programme of wider public engagement. • Work with the executive team to deliver a robust, imaginative and visitor-focused future plan for the collections and support the development of sponsorship proposals. • Lead, manage and develop the collections team, including volunteers. • Working closely with the Curator, develop, manage, implement and keep under review optimum curatorial standards in collections management and care. • Lead on the collections policy to inform future collecting, acquisitions and site developments. • Manage relationships across teams and contribute to collaborative working to deliver the required outputs. • Oversee academic research undertaken by the collections and exhibitions team to inform the development of future programmes and projects. • Define and deliver excellent standards of research and ways of working. • Helping to shape opportunities for external funding and partnership working. • Lead and project manage certain developments of Bletchley Park. • Represent the park externally where appropriate, e.g. on professional groups and in dealings with stakeholders and partners, ensuring positive relationships and enhancement of the organisation’s reputation. • Constantly review and develop operational procedures and policies to meet requirements and overcome problems. • Manage financial budgets with the aim to maximise revenue and achieve cost savings. • Attend relevant training and meetings as required. • Be committed to Continuous Professional Development (CPD), keeping up-to date and meeting any annual requirement for CPD required of you professionally. • Contribute to the effective management and promotion of equality and diversity. • Work in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act. • Work at all times in accordance with the trust’s policies and procedures. • Carry out such duties as may be required from time to time by the trust that are appropriate to the grade of the post. To be a successful Head of Collections and Exhibitions you will have the following skills and experience: • Exemplary time management skills and the ability to work under pressure. • Excellent inter-personal skills and a willingness to listen to and assist others. • Willing to take initiative and work independently e.g. in generating letters, reports, forms and responding to enquiries. • Able to manage and liaise with external suppliers and contractors. • Adaptable and willing to learn new things. • Good IT skills including the ability to use Google Docs, MS office, and in particular word processing and spreadsheets. • Excellent verbal and presentational skills. • Excellent written skills, with fastidious attention to detail. • Good numeracy skills. • Significant knowledge and experience of the museums and heritage industry.
