Job Title: Senior Developer Location: Cheltenham Competitive Salary & Benefits: £50,000 to £60,000 + Benefits Are you a Senior Developer looking for a new opportunity to manage expectations, develop and process software development cycles from start to end? About the role The primary function of this role is to construct code and build configuration into any in house or 3rd party software. In addition to building from technical systems / design specifications and delivering to appropriate development standards, the role involves input to systems design, and support throughout testing, implementation and post implementation. Ensuring that the system code and configuration delivered is effective, efficient, performant and fully in line with the requirements. The role supports all applications (in house and 3rd party) used within CMSS ITS to support the business operation or clients, for all nature of business. What you will do: Input into technical solution and specifications - writing / updating specifications where appropriate, to required documentation standards, incorporating reviews and appropriate signoffs Estimating development activities (coding, code reviews, testing support etc.) for changes and new projects, ensuring key assumptions, dependencies etc. are documented, accurately. Write efficient code for new and enhanced functionality and system maintenance - ensuring the BAU operational aspects are considered. Apply appropriate configuration, according to the requirements. Deliver work in line with estimates and time scales. Participate in specification walk through. Organise and participate in code reviews with other team members as required. Ensure that unit test plans are developed for work carried out and that all code/configuration is unit tested prior to being handed over to system test. Investigate, resolve and correct errors within program code / configuration at all stages of the project lifecycle in line with company programming and development standards. Ensure system performance is not impacted by any changes that are being made as part of a development. Organise and provide coaching/mentoring of other developers. Actively identify enhancements to the system and ensure that the necessary documentation is raised. Detailed knowledge of performance testing. Knowledge of efficient coding practices & available load testing tools. Ensure technical environments are appropriately set up for development projects. Take responsibility for the build process within the development environment. Monitor fault reporting within the development environment, using approved tools. Co-ordination of a small team of developers to deliver discrete programming modules. Provide technical guidance at expert level in at least two programming languages. Ensure awareness of deadlines and priorities. Report on progress and issues/risks in a timely manner. Maintain accurate records for time recording purposes, proficient use of ChangePoint for recording time Actively improve own business, systems and technical knowledge within the CMSS ITS Systems product set and CMSS solution offerings. Liaise with the Project Manager and other team members at all stages of the project ensuring no surprises and using both formal and informal methods of communication. Your experience will include: Strong code and configuration development skills Strong QA skills to ensure reviews and unit tests carried out to deliver quality code Technical understanding of the solutions used within CMSS ITS systems Good understanding of audit requirements throughout the delivery lifecycle Communication with other team members Training and mentoring other team member Building relationships with internal, external and client relationships. Development skills Budget awareness Continual improvement initiatives Developing other members or the team and environment. Understanding of full project lifecycle Proven track record of delivering to estimates Extensive Financial Services experience Understanding of governance standards, processes and methodologies Extensive and varied Software delivery Confident communicator Extensive experience in development of : ADO.NET ASP.NET C# C++ COM+ HTML IIS .NET Framework 2/3.5 SQL Language SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 TFS (source control/build/configuration) T-SQL VB6 Web services and WSDL for web services XML (including XML schemas) XSL What's in it for you?
